Vote for the name of Oshkosh’s new middle school

Oshkosh’s new middle school has voting for its new name. Emma Goetz reports.

According to Fox 11 News, Oshkosh Area School districts new middle school is inviting the public to vote on a name. The district superintendent Bryan Davis said, “This is an exciting time for our entire community, and we look forward to working together with families and the public to not only name our new middle school but continue our path of creating innovative learning environments for our students and ensuring our district is future-focused.” The public is invited to vote for three finalists as the new school’s name. The three finalists are Jessie Jack Hooper, who was an activist and pushed for women’s voting rights and helped pass the nineteenth amendment. Paul H. Poberezny who is a military veteran and aviator who founded the annual EAA Air venture convention in Oshkosh and lastly, Vel Phillips who was a civil rights leader and was Wisconsin’s first African American judge and served as states first nonwhite women for secretary of state. Votes can be submitted through an online survey which can be found at the Oshkosh Area School District website. The survey and voting closes at noon on November 22nd.
