The drama and anticipation surrounding the Aaron Rodgers trade is finally over and now that we have the official trade details involving the four-time MVP, let’s take a look at who actually won this huge trade. The details of the trade are as follows:
Jets receive:
Aaron Rodgers
2023 first-round pick (No. 15 overall)
2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170)
Packers receive:
2023 first round pick (No. 13)
2023 second-round pick (No. 42)
2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207)
2024 conditional second-round pick which becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of snaps.
Now that the trade with the New York Jets is finalized the Rodgers-era in Green Bay is over and the Jets finally get themselves some stability at the QB position. Looking at this trade at face value it’s easy to see that the Jets won this trade by acquiring skill at the QB position that they haven’t had since the Joe Namath days. Rodgers will be joining a very young Jets team that is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Last year the Jets took home both Rookie of the Year awards, going to Garrett Wilson (Offensive) and Sauce Gardner (Defensive).
While some people may be quick to say that Rodgers is washed up, you can’t forget this is someone who won consecutive MVP awards (2020 & 2021). While he did struggle last year, it was on a Packers team that dealt with constant injuries, drama, and the loss of their star receiver Davante Adams. Heading to a new team that has the talent to make a deep playoff run is just what the doctor ordered for Rodgers to cap off his incredible career and helps the Jets snap their 12-year playoff drought.
