Who Will Shine in Year 1? C.J Stroud or Bryce Young?

By Dominic Lee

With the NFL Draft approaching, it’s hard not to notice the number of QB’s who go be selected in the first round. Among them are C.J Stroud and Bryce Young. Stroud’s time at Ohio State was excellent. In 2022, he threw 41 touchdowns with 6 interceptions. At Alabama, Young threw 32 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. The comparisons between Stroud and Young are quite close. Every stat you can name indicates both QB’s are practically equal. Yet one player will go #1 overall in the NFL draft and have an excellent first year. But who will it be? Could it be either?

I think that C.J Stroud will have a better start to his career in year one than Bryce Young. Yes, I think both QB’s have a good shot at having a great career before they retire, but that’s later down the road. The biggest reason I have Stroud with a slight edge over Young is because of his NFL Combine performance. He is a perfect rhythm passer from the pocket and his timing on his throws is impeccable. His deep ball throws on Combine Day were outstanding. Not only does he have a huge arm, but he also is a big guy, towering 6ft 3in and weighing 214 pounds. Young is only 5ft 10in and 204 pounds and doesn’t have a huge arm. Stroud’s 8,000 plus passing yards are slightly above Young.

Overall, their success depends on which drafts them and what their offensive line and receiving corps can do to help these young, dynamic QBs.
