WRST’s Spotlight On Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, WRST will be airing four 30-minute programs each Thursday at 5:00 pm.

We are so fortunate to have speakers and presenters from campus, the community, and across the country to join us in the month-long celebration. The Black History Month Spotlight will spotlight individuals and discuss issues, events, and activities relevant to African Americans on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh campus. Events will be virtual and/or face-to-face. To see what we have in store, the full calendar of events is here. This first episode focuses on student leadership on campus with Jayla Ross, Shara Becker, and Priscilla Idoko.

The second episode talks with University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Recruitment Coordinator, Jarrius James and Academic Advisor, Renee Simpson discuss how they attract and retain students. 

The third episode talks with University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumni, Pastor Charles Butler and UWO Director of Student Achievement Services talk about their time as students at UWO and what they’re doing now.

The final Episode talks with Dr. Alphonso Simpson, Director of the African American Studies Program and Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He explains the theme this year for Black History Month activities and events on campus. He also shares the progress being made to move the African American Studies program to a department on campus and a leader in the state of Wisconsin.
